Ariella Monti writes, "Wake County Animal Center is stepping up efforts to decrease the number of animals that are euthanized each year.From January 2008 to June 2011 about 8,200 dogs and 15,600 cats were euthanized. Statewide, Wake County has the lowest euthanasia rate at 49 percent in 2010. But it also has the highest adoption rate at 39 percent."
